V. Bozeman Speaks On Her Upcoming Album, Working W/ Timbaland & Her New Show 'Sacrifice'!

November 23rd, 2020

V. Bozeman is a woman who is all about her business and is ready to show the world who she really is. Many people know Bozeman from the hit show Empire with co-stars Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard. She was recognized widely when she performed her hit single 'What Is Love'. Now after releasing her latest single 'Juicy' and creating her OnlyFans account Bozeman is ready to release her upcoming album and rock the music industry.

EHHD got the opportunity to speak with V. Bozeman and here's what she had to say:

What does music mean to you?

Music is like oxygen. I've always known I've had a gift from an early age. It's never been a plan B, it's always been this. A singer. I'm so grateful and humble that God chose me to have the gift of song. Music is everything. You know when you're young it takes some time for people to realize like 'what am I supposed to be doing on this earth right now?' I've always known. Music is my purpose, it's my calling. That's why I'm here.

I know you're from South Central LA, how do you feel coming from that area has helped shape you into the star you are today?

It shaped me a lot. It's a lot of diamonds in the rough from South Central LA. I'm just happy that I got a chance to get across that hill. It's things that you pick up from along the way from which the environment that you grow up in. I'm thankful for that. It's so many amazing people that has sown into me, my community, the women, my family, just real OG's. I would not be who I am and where I am if it weren't for my environment. It's beautiful. South Central is not all bad. It's beautiful things where I'm from.

I know you refer to yourself often as a "regular homegirl around the way".. how do you stand so firm in who you are and not get influenced by what culture is doing?

You know I just came from humble beginnings. I'm so aware of who I am. I know the power in that. I know the power in where I come from. That makes me unique in who I am, in this skin. I would never compromise myself or gain a fame, moneys, or popularities for this industry. This thing is way deep. As solid as you are is as solid as you gone be in the industry. If you come in fickle and not secure of knowing self, you gone have a real hard time. Based on experience, things I've seen and learned, I know that's the one thing I have to really be solid in. My foundation and how I got here. I can't defer from that.

I know in an interview you did with Flaunt Magazine you said you learned a lot from working with hip hop legend Timbaland. Tell us some of the things you learned.

First of all, Timbaland is amazing to work with. He really engages with his artists. He allows them to be themselves. He gives them this burst of confidence that I haven't experienced before working on the level that I worked on. It's intimidating when you're new in the industry and you're working with an energy as big as Timbaland.

When you start working with him, naturally, that all goes out the window because you start having fun. He showers so much love on you and admiration for your talent. Magic was made. You just have fun and just in your gift. That's what I learned. Rely on your gift. Have fun and don't take yourself so seriously. Be present in the moment.

I hear you made about two albums working with Tim, are one of those going to be released soon?

Yeah, we created two albums. We were probably ahead of our time. It's so relevant right now, as far as the content we recorded and the body of work, it's so special. We're revisiting it and we're going to present it very soon. I'm excited. What we're experiencing in the world, it's real stuff. I'm always about sowing into my art about what's going on in real time. This project that we did definitely represents that, so it'll come soon.

Is that the same album that will be dropping soon or is it a different one?

No, it's a different one. I have so much music. I have a new project that I've been working on for the past year. It'll be out the top of next year right for cuffing season. I'm really excited about this album to see where R&B has gone and how I've evolved. I'm really just ready for cuffing season so I can get all these folks to have some babies, get married and all types of stuff. This album is definitely for the homegirls. You're gonna want to listen to this album from top to bottom. Period.

Let's talk about Juicy. What inspired you to remix Mtume's 'Juicy Fruit'? Why that specific song?

I was just ready to have fun. People have been so used to me singing big ballads, wailing and going on. Which is fine. I wanted to switch it up. It's a heavy time. I wanted the homegirls to feel sexy and light during this quarantine. How can you go wrong with Mtume's 'Juicy Fruit'? Shout out to Jim Beanz who did an excellent job of updating it and so much love to Trina and Too $hort for putting their [spice] on it. I wanted the bar to stay high. You can't get more juicier than Trina and the fellas love Too $hort. I just wanted to create the balance all around. Sensuality needs hip hop, you got 'Juicy'.

How did you go about getting Trina and Too $hort on it?

I been a fan of Trina's for years. We developed a friendship organically. When I did the original song, I was like of course we gotta have a remix. I was automatically like I'm not doing this song without Trina. Too Short is like a brother to me and like I said before I wanted to create a balance. I felt they would be so dope together. They're never been on a track together. We gave a female energy and the male energy and they were just going tit for tat and I was loving it. I'm just in the middle doing what I do. How could you not like that? I was like we gone win with this one. I'm so happy they agreed to do it.

What was the inspiration behind the video? Why lingerie in quarantine?

I like to push the envelope. That's how I've always been. If I'm talking about sensuality, love, my blackness, my womanness, I'm always going to push the envelope. If you now me my visuals always push the envelope. This was no different. Also, we're in quarantine. We had to present it in a creative way. I have a great team with artistry records. It's a lot of young minds. We engage and come up with different ways to engage with people. FaceTime was quarantine friendly . We thought it was very cool, dope and forward thinking. The people loved it. It's really limited what you could do in quarantine with videos. We controlled the atmosphere, we controlled the cameras. We made magic. It was dope.

Speaking of lingerie, I hear you started an OnlyFans account. What are you specifically using your account for?

Like I said I like to push the envelope. At the same time I'm a very outspoken person. Sometimes when I do things on my main page on my Instagram, I get shadow banned or somebody telling on me and they'll shut my Instagram down. I'm like that wasn't even a lot. I'm taking OnlyFans to be myself. It's not me doing anything extra. You will see beautiful content. I thought 'Juicy' was a great way to introduce that to my supporters. For them to see a consistent side of me that I never want to shy away from. I'm beautiful, black, young, and sexy. It's not a reason for us to be ashamed or hiding that. I'm not going to compromise or embarrass myself. It's my page and I control everything. What everybody else do on they OnlyFans thats they business, I'll be over here doing what I do on my OnlyFans page.

Talk about your new series 'Sacrifice' that'll be premiering on BET+. Explain the show and your role in that.

Yes, 'Sacrifice' we just got the green light for 10 episodes for our second season. I'm so thankful. Shout out to Chris Stokes, Paula Patton, Erica Ash, and Marques Houston. Amazing cast. It's basically about an entertainment lawyer that is just fly, smart, savvy. Not PC when it comes to her approaching her men and her clients. My character name is Tameka and I'm basically her backbone. I have her back, I'm like her bestfriend. The things she can't get away with doing, I do. Even if it's not what I should be doing, I'm still going to get it done. It's going to be a great storyline, great different subjects when it comes to what's going on now and in the industry. I think people are going to be very intrigued by this series. I'm loving where it's going. I hope they love it. I'm excited about it.

What's next for V. Bozeman?

You can definitely expect a lot of new roles. I'm really diving into my acting. New singles coming. That's on the horizon very soon. Also, just engaging with my fans. Putting out as much beautiful content as I can during this quarantine to balance everything out. They say it's going to be a whole second wave. I'm trying to stay consistent on my end to give somebody a place to escape and enjoy some creative vibrations.
