De La Soul gives credit where it’s due.

The hip hop group De La Soul’s surviving members Posdnuos and Maseo sat down for an interview with MSNBC’s Ari Melber to discuss the group, their music and its longevity, as well as the future of the group, especially after the loss of a member.

During the interview, Melber asks the group about who they are listening to within the new generation of rappers. It was Maseo who mentions Griselda, as he gives them props as, “They are a group that actually has kind of brought it back home, you know, to New York, in my opinion. New York has lost its way for some time, we talked about mainstream. People have embodied other styles of music just to “sell records” instead of just focusing on being artistic…”

“When you listen to the essence of it, you hear the B-Boy in it all.” Maseo adds.

De La Soul’s catalog became available on DSP’s such as streaming platforms last month, garnering 12.5 million official U.S. song streams within the first week, as well as selling 28,000 album units consisting of both physical and digital sales.
